Important stuff: This is a regular full-time, exempt position, and pay will be based on qualifications. Position Overview: Eureka Recycling seeks a Clean Energy Organizer whose primary responsibility would be to provide organizing support to communities for the Metro Clean Energy Resource Team (CERT).

Background: Eureka Recycling, based in the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, is the only organization in Minnesota that specializes in zero waste. The organization’s services, programs, and policy work present solutions to the social, environmental, economic and health problems caused by wasting. A 501©(3) nonprofit organization, Eureka Recycling’s mission is to demonstrate that waste is preventable, not inevitable. Because this mission is realized by any person or group that chooses to prevent waste, Eureka Recycling provides opportunities for everyone to experience firsthand that waste can be prevented.

About Metro CERT: The Metro region of the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) is housed and supported by Eureka Recycling. CERTs’ mission is to connect community members to the resources they need to identify and implement clean energy – conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy – projects. CERTs is a non-advocacy, non-partisan partnership that brings together partners from the University of MN, Eureka Recycling, The Minnesota Project, Minnesota Department of Commerce Division of Energy Resources, and Southwest Regional Development Commission.

Job Responsibilities: The Metro CERT Organizer will be responsible for providing communities with support and resources to plan and implement local energy projects in the 11-county Metro region, in coordination with the state-wide Clean Energy Resource Teams. This includes the following tasks, to be implemented in partnership with the Metro CERT Director:

  • Lead organizing efforts for some of the Metro CERT events with the assistance of other CERTs staff and partners, and the statewide CERTs Events Coordinator
  • Support CERTs communications strategies, including website content, social media, e-newsletters, media strategy, fact sheets and other materials
  • Staff community events and tabling opportunities
  • Provide oversight for Metro CERT affiliate network
  • Be the lead contact for state-wide CERTs initiatives such as campaigns and events
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key partner organizations, including existing CERTs staff, leading clean energy non-profits, neighborhood groups, clean energy businesses, city and county staff, and utilities
  • Facilitate providing assistance to the local energy initiatives of Metro CERT affiliates
  • Administer Metro CERT seed grant funding: convene review committee, manage contracts, reporting and invoices
  • Coordinate Metro CERT Steering Committee: including regular communications and updates, organizing meetings.
  • Supervise and work with interns and student employees to assist with project implementation
  • Research and write case studies on energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the Metro region
  • Fundraising work as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong community organizing and group facilitation skills
  • Working knowledge of and interest in community-based organizations
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Experience implementing effective communications strategies
  • Knowledge of and experience with renewable energy and energy efficiency issues, projects, options and strategies
  • Technical background in energy research and data analysis (such as provided by an advanced degree) desired but not required
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people and as part of a team
  • Reliable, self-motivated individual who can take direction and work independently, including effective time management
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify problems and develop solutions
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in a related endeavor
  • Ability to travel efficiently to meetings throughout the 11 county metro region
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Working Conditions: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Travel required throughout the 11 county metro region. Work may require weekend and/or evening work.
