CERTs welcomes Sarah Hayden as the new Coordinator for our Central Region!

CERTs is very excited to welcome the newest member to our team—Sarah Hayden of Brainerd, MN! Sarah will be working across our Central Region to help communities learn, connect, and act for our clean energy future!

Sarah claims that her first foray into environmental advocacy was in the 7th grade when she started an after school club called ‘Students for the Environment’ at Antioch Middle School. Really! That was a few years ago now, but minimizing human impact on our environment has remained a central concern for her. She has worked as a high school teacher, a salmon processor (yes, the fish), a security guard, and a drywall hanger—and learned much through it all.

She came to Minnesota in 2003 to pursue a master’s degree in environmental science at Bemidji State University, loved the area, and eventually settled down (met a boy, you know the story). Since then she has worked in the energy efficiency and renewable energy fields in the Brainerd and Pine River area, and statewide. Her specialty is in building energy efficiency and she is a Certified Energy Manager and Energy Auditor. She also is proud to have worked for years in the solar energy field doing advocacy and research (and grunt work too).

Here’s what Sarah had to say on her first day: “I believe the most effective clean energy advocacy work happens at the community level. In my Central Minnesota community, I have a head start with so much activity, work, and passion in the worlds of energy efficiency and renewable energy already taking place here. I am THRILLED and honored to be able to work on continuing the advancement of the clean energy goals of my region!”
