Chris Meyer joins CERTs as coordinator of Southeast, MN region

“Advocating for renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability is the volunteer job I’ve been doing for several years” said Chris Meyer, who has just joined CERTs as the Southeast CERT Coordinator, “and now I’ll have an excuse to do it.”

Meyer dove into a personal adventure that started about 10 years ago, when she and her husband wanted to install solar panels at their home in Winona, MN. They learned that energy efficiency was really where they should start and from there implemented a DIY residential retro-fit to make their home net zero energy. Chris became a certified residential PV site assessor, organized local citizens to attract a community solar garden to Winona, and coordinated the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society’s statewide renewable energy tour in recent years.

She is near the completion of a Master’s degree in environmental policy specializing in energy and sustainability and excited to use all her personal experiences and training to help Minnesotans transition to a clean energy economy.

About Southeastern Minnesota, Chris said: “It is impossible not to be inspired by the great work people doing, such as growing crops year round in solar heated green houses or building passive homes that need very little energy for heating and cooling. Whole communities, organizations, and single families are setting goals to reduce energy use and become more sustainable and I can’t imagine a better job than being part of that.”
