National Drive Electric Week, coming up September 12-20, 2015, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today’s widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.
You probably already know this, but electric vehicles are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, and promote local jobs. That’s a lot of good stuff!
Join Drive Electric Minnesota and partners at the second annual National Drive Electric Week! They will be hosting multiple events around the Twin Cities celebrating and educating the public on the benefits of driving electric:
- Ride and Drive at the Mall of America – Saturday, September 12th, 11am-4pm
- Electric Vehicle Display at the Minnesota Twins Game – Wednesday, September 16th, 4-7pm
- Smart and Fast: Cars remaking the world of the electric company – Thursday, September 17th, 7-9am
- Electric Vehicle Display at the St. Paul Farmer’s Market – Sunday, September 20th, 8am-1pm
Speaking of EVs, did you hear that we broke a record in Minneapolis this summer?
This summer at the 36 Lyn Refuel Station in Minneapolis, 85 electric cars were charged with a DC fast charger. 440 kilowatt-hours of electricity were dispensed, completing the 24 Hour Electric Vehicle Charging Challenge and setting a Guinness World Record. Peace Coffee and Galactic Pizza offered participants refreshments, while Zero Emissions Future Energy and Minnesota Plug-In Vehicle Owners’ Circle also contributed. The environmentally friendly 36 Lyn Refuel Station has already upgraded its canopy lights to LEDs. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency wants this record to be topped.
