Rolling applications open now

The Minneapolis Foundation received $40 million dollars from the EPA to distribute ~200 grants for environmental justice projects located in disadvantaged communities throughout EPA Region 5 (which includes all of MN). Eligible entities include local units of government, tribal governments, non-profits and community-based organizations, Indigenous organizations, and higher education institutions; Minneapolis Foundation is prioritizing tribal applicants, rural communities with populations <10,000, and community-based organizations with budgets <$5 million and <10 full-time staff. Qualifying projects fall into three broad category types:

  • Tier 1 - Assessment and Engagement
One-year grants of up to $150,000 to understand local challenges, needs, and opportunities.
  • Tier 2 - Community Education and Planning
One- to two-year grants of up to $250,000 to design, inform, and highlight local solutions.
  • Tier 3 - Project Development and Implementation
One- to two-year grants of up to $350,000 to pilot or implement project plans.

Minneapolis Foundation has posted a series of webinars explaining the program.
