HR Intern

Dependent on qualifications and experience, we expect the compensation range for this position will be $18-$19.5/hr.
We are looking for an intern to join our HR team! This role will report to the HR Manager . The HR team foster a positive, inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration, enabling employees to thrive and contribute to CEE’s sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives. Additionally, HR ensures that the organization’s values are reflected in its policies, practices, and employee engagement efforts, driving a culture of accountability, diversity, and continuous improvement to achieve CEE’s mission-driven objectives. As an intern, you will be responsible for various administrative tasks and support our HR department’s daily activities. HR Intern responsibilities include updating our employee records with new hire and employee changes information. Additionally, you will assist in organizing and maintaining HR information, policies, and procedures. You will also assist with and attend company HR events, training sessions, and recruiting events.
What You’ll Do
General and Recruitment
- Act as the first point of contact for HR; manages the CEE HR email account.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee’s compensation, benefits, and personal information.
- Assist in end-to-end recruitment process including posting position, reviewing resumes, and scheduling interviews with recruiter.
- Launch preemployment check reviews and coordinate with recruiter and other HR team members.
- Assist with resolving employee inquiries and issues with benefits and other employment matters.
- Prepare HR-related reports as needed.
- Maintain integrity and accuracy of personnel databases and filing systems, electronic and physical.
- Daily filing of HR paperwork, in paper and electronic formats.
New Employees onboarding responsibilities
- Initiate new hire paperwork promptly after offer acceptance.
- Creates and maintain personnel folder with all relevant new hire documentation.
- Coordinate the new hire onboarding process by collaborating with the hiring manager and supporting teams to ensure a smooth transition.
- Schedule and facilitate first-day orientation for all new hires
- Manage I-9 verification and complete the e-Verify process for compliance with employment eligibility regulations
Staff changes and HRIS Management
- Update our internal databases, systems, and worksheets with new employee information and employee changes information, including contact details and employment forms.
- Process and data enter changes to staff details, benefits, hires, and terminations. Ensure changes are updated in the HRIS system in time for accurate and timely payroll inclusion.
- Collaborate and communicate with payroll where their work and HR’s work intersect.
Termination
- Coordinate the separation process by communicating with managers, employees, and stakeholders.
- Follow the separation steps -- prepare exit letter, notifying internal stakeholders, update HRIS, etc.
- Update the third party administrator regarding COBRA continuation.
Other duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications
- Working towards a degree in Human Resources or a similar field.
- Experience with MS Office required, especially MS Word and MS Excel.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proactivity and ability to work independently.
- Basic knowledge of HR confidentiality requirements; demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive and protected information.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service, time-management, and communication skills.
- Positive attitude and passion for learning about day-to-day HR activities.
- Maintain consistent attendance during established working hours and occasional additional hours.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds as well as carry, push, pull, kneel and squat.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous HR internship experience is a plus
- Familiarity with HRIS platform(s) is a plus
