CERTs welcomes AmeriCorps member Katie Schroeer to Metro CERT at Great Plains Institute, supporting projects focused on reducing residential energy burden for underserved rental and manufactured home communities, as well as efforts to support energy efficiency, solar, and electrification upgrades for small and underserved businesses in the Twin Cities.
Katie hopes to use her time with CERTs to help increase Minnesotans’ knowledge of and control over their energy systems, as well as connect with the Metro-area networks that are integrating clean, affordable, community-based energy into broader visions of healthy and equitable housing, food, and transit systems.
Katie recently graduated from Bryn Mawr College, outside Philadelphia, where she studied environmental studies and political science. After a decade away from her native Minneapolis, she looks forward to reconnecting with the city in all its seasons.
Katie can frequently be found in or on a nearby lake, river, or vegetable garden, reading up on stories of local people-powered change, or staring at the stars.
