Opportunity Knocking: Requests for Proposals from the Minnesota Department of Commerce

Announcements, Announcements! Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are available for two interesting opportunities for clean energy service providers!

Deadline: The deadline for submitting both proposals is April 22, 2013.

Opportunity #1: Professional Engineering Services for Development of Standardized Tables Characterizing Residential Solar Installations RFP

The Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources is requesting proposals for technical services from qualified, licensed individuals or firms to complete a structural engineering analysis of residential rooftop solar energy systems to be placed on existing single and multiple family dwelling structures in Minnesota and to develop standard tables with the appropriate live and dead loads in accordance with the 2007 Minnesota Building Code. This project is intended to benefit existing residential dwellings where the roof system is conventionally-framed with solid-sawn lumber rafters and adjacent ceiling joists/ties. The project will also include a separate analysis that will generally address residential dwellings with truss roof systems.

Opportunity #2: Minnesota State Fair Energy Home Exhibit RFP

The Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources is requesting proposals from qualified contractors to design and fabricate components of the Energy Home Exhibit in the Eco Experience Building at the 2013 Minnesota State Fair. This RFP will consist of two sections, as follows:

  • Overall Exhibit Design: Utilize the general concept of “rooms” of a house with energy efficiency/conservation/choices messages throughout as well as a “yard” of renewable energy options (wind, solar, ground source heat) and design an overall exhibit space that integrates current and to-be fabricated components into a cohesive design.
  • Display Design and Fabrication: Utilizing the concept drawings included in this RFP, several museum-quality displays demonstrating energy-related messaging will be designed and fabricated by a selected responder. These displays will have interactive elements allowing participant inputs and education for multiple learning styles. Display design and fabrication will be completed by the selected responder.
