Round two of the Solar on Public Buildings Grant assessment is due 12/2

Grant round two opens Oct. 21

The MN Department of Commerce is administering a $4.3 million Solar on Public Buildings grant program to help cover the costs of solar installation for public buildings. Applicants may receive grants to cover up to 70% of the costs of a solar installation.

This is intended to pair with the federal 30% Investment Tax Credit for solar, which is now available to non-taxable entities through ‘Elective Pay’ and in total would cover 100% of the cost of a solar array.

This is the second grant round for 2024. Each round has a two-step process: a readiness assessment and a full grant application.

The timeline for Round 2:

  • Step 1: Notice of Intent: Public Building Readiness Assessment

Date of Issue: Monday, October 21, 2024
Public Building Readiness Assessment Due Monday, December 2, 2024
Public Building Readiness Eligibility Notification: Monday, December 30, 2024

  • Step 2: Full Grant Application

    Application Open: Upon Notification
Application Due: Monday, April 21, 2025
Final Notification: Monday, May 19, 2025

Applicants receive extra points for participating in a pre-consultation meeting with CERTs.

Contact Peter Lindstrom (plindstr@umn.edu) or Aaron Backs (abacks@gpisd.net) with CERTs to schedule a consultation.
