Clean Energy Economy Minnesota releases the annual Clean Jobs Midwest Report

October 2024

If you want to get a lay of the clean energy job land in Minnesota, the annual Clean Jobs Midwest is a great place to start.

It turns out 2024 was a pretty darn good year: clean energy and clean vehicle jobs in Minnesota set a record, growing to more than 62,000 jobs — a four percent increase over the previous year.

The report was released in October.

We asked Clean Energy Economy Minnesota (CEEM) Executive Director Gregg Mast a couple of questions:

Was there anything in this report that really surprised or jumped out at you?

“Registering 13.2% year-over-year job growth, clean transportation continues to lead the way as the fastest-growing subsector in Minnesota as well as the 12-state Midwest region where jobs in the sub sector grew at a 9.1% clip. With transportation the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, efforts to decarbonize our transportation sector is benefitting our economy by creating jobs while simultaneously addressing climate pollution.”

What are you looking forward to in 2025 for Minnesota’s clean energy economy?

“Stable and predictable policies will be crucial to maintaining and accelerating clean energy job growth in the state. As implementation of recently passed federal and state policies continues to take place, an intentional focus on ensuring a skilled workforce and developing a pipeline of diverse talent will be essential for the state to achieve its clean energy laws and net-zero goals.”
