Improving efficiency with window solutions!

February 2025

In November 2024, Steve Sylvestre, the High Performance Windows Initiative Manager at Center for Energy and Environment shared a presentation on the benefits, opportunities, and resources related to high performance windows. Attendees represented a variety of backgrounds from the utility sector but the information Steve shared is equally beneficial for homeowners and renters.

Did you know there are many different types of window solutions to improve efficiency and meet the needs of single family and multifamily homes? While a thin triple — a slimmer version of a traditional triple pane — is a no-brainer for new construction, existing homes and renters have options too. Storm windows, shades, shutters, and awnings can also produce energy and demand savings for window systems.

Steve shared the many benefits to upgrading your windows including thermal comfort, noise reduction, heating and cooling savings, resilience to extreme weather, reduction of condensation, moisture, and mold, and visual comfort. Steve also explored existing incentives for high performance windows. Check with your utility to see if they offer window rebates.

Overall, the webinar shared the importance of high-performance windows, the modest cost to upgrade, and provided an overview of resources from the Center for Energy and Environment and the Partnership for Advanced Window Solutions that can help you understand high performance windows.
