Reusing stormwater for irrigation in Centerville, MN

Water conservation: Minnesota cities learn about resources and share their initiatives

Groundwater modeling is showing that Minnesota’s current water use cannot be sustained into the future.

To discuss the issue and learn about solutions, staff from Minnesota cities came together on May 21, 2013 in Saint Paul to learn how cities are and can help residents and businesses to cut water use and costs and save money on new city wells.

Presentations covered the Met Council’s Water Conservation Toolbox, the EPA’s WaterSense Program, and city efforts in Centerville (reusing stormwater for irrigation of municipal ballfields), Rogers (ensuring 20 commercial water customers use rain sensors), and Eden Prairie (funding appliance rebates and education with water rates). In addition, cities were able to order free toilet leak-finder tablets in bulk and deeply discounted spray valves & faucet aerators.
